Gov. Ted Strickland of Ohio proclaims “Bret Schundler Day”

“Today is a day that is stupendous, for all of Ohio–––and all its descendants,” announced Gov. Ted Strickland in proclaiming today, September 3, officially “Bret Schundler Day” in the Buckeye State.

The former education commissioner of the state of New Jersey may be reviled in the Garden State, but in Ohio he is a hero to the several hundred thousand children of the Ohio school system.

Last week, because of the actions of
Schundler, Ohio will receive $400 million from the Obama administration to improve schools. “Screw Justin Bieber,” said 11-year-old Jessica Lynn Grant of Columbus, Ohio. “Mr. Schundler is my new hero––because of him we don't have to lose cheerleading, or after school lacrosse. He's cool.”

The U.S. Department of Education announced that Ohio was among nine states and the District of Columbia that will receive funding in the second round of the $4.35 billion “Race to the Top” competition. Other winners include Florida, Georgia, Hawaii, Maryland, Massachusetts, New York, North Carolina and Rhode Island.

A principal from a middle school in Dayton, Ohio––who wished to remain anonymous––had a similar opinion: “… the schools here usually suck. But Mr. Schundler's actions will allow our schools to suck just a little bit less this year. And I don't have to give up my raise or vacation.”

The governor continued reading from the proclamation he had just signed:

Whereas Bret Schundler has long been known as having a commitment to the education of the children of Ohio and;

Whereas it was his actions alone that enabled Ohio to finish 10th in the
“Race to the Top” federal funding for education competition and;

Whereas his actions enabled the Buckeye State to receive $400 million to help hire teachers, provide scholarships for students, and keep our schools open;

Therefore, it is in great recognition of the fine contribution Bret Schundler has made to the state of Ohio for all of our students and teachers; I proclaim today September 3, 2010 “Bret Schundler Day”.

Schundler really helped bring bucks to the Buckeye state," finished the governor with a little smirk.Gov. Christie's office in New Jersey could not be reached for comment.

Gee Joey why not direct that anger at Obama and the Dept of Ed for screwing over NJ over a typo? Oh no not Joey... tis better to use this for political gain then to actually attempt to get the money for our students.

Of course EVERYONE knows why Obama wants to give this money to Ohio over NJ. 2012 is only 2 years away and Ohio is an important battleground state.

You think it is because of a typo in the paperwork? Are people who read your posts that gullible or is it only you?

Can you imagine how much money we could have for schools if Obama would just stay at work instead of flying off for a round of golf at Martha's Vineyard?

Does anyone REALLY deserve 7 vacations in 2 years? But hey who am I to criticize Obama?

And does anyone sort of feel funny over the new Oval Office decorator, Michael Smith?

Maureen Dowd mentions in her last NYT piece this is the same decorator that Merrill Lynch's C.E.O. John Thain used when he redesigned his office after receiving TARP money. http://www.nytimes.com/2010/09/01/opinion/01dowd.html?_r=1&ref=maureendowd

That re-decorating money could have gone to schools but instead it 'dressed' up Obama's office.

This weekend Obama is off to rest at Camp David. Yes... he is going on a mini-vacation. Maybe the smell of fresh paint in the Oval Office is too harsh for him.

Meanwhile Joey is upset over a typo. Politics...

All over the news we see Democrats avoiding Obama for the midterm elections. Heck they even denounce the party and Obamacare.

Meanwhile... Republicans are embracing Christie http://www.nj.com/news/index.ssf/2010/09/nj_republicans_hope_to_ride_go.html

Amazing how the first two posters blame the president instead of the governor. Obama did not fill out the application; he did not make the presentation; he did not make the pompous statements.
I also note they wished to remain anonymous.

Who the hell are you FlyerzFan? Funny I can't find your name in the phone book?

And yes I DO blame Obama for playing politics with our children. Cmon after all isn't that what Joey's whole post was about? To play politics at the expense of our children.

You people are sick. I am neither a Republican nor a Democrat but I sure as hell find it hard to vote for you soul-less bastards.
